| Technical evaluation and feasibility study of open source tools was done to select one out of them to be used in development of online community portal.

The technical evaluation and feasibility study was carried out grossly based on two methods:
|

- Feature available through basic Framework and Extension
- Feature available through 3rd party Component
- Custom Development required to meet the feature requirements
|

- Should have for launch ( Medium priority, could go live without, would need sign off)
- Could have for launch (Wanted for go live, but negotiable

One senior team member is assigned evaluation of each tool independently against an extensive questionnaire related to availability of different components and features, technical feasibility of the tool to be utilized in best possible way, and the efforts required to built/develop additional components/features not available in the tool.
Based on response from each evaluator in the questionnaire, a detailed matrix of each individual component required is built with strength and weakness to facilitate comparison of each tool. Also, one-view of this matrix is built based on rating scores of all four tools. Time is also an important factor in evaluation of the tools, as different tools require different components to be developed that need different levels of efforts and manpower.
A conclusion from overall portal development perspective is provided to client with time constraints. The whole process involves extensive documentation, both on client side to describe requirements, as well as developer side to document feasibility. |
