Geofencing & Geotracking Tracks Teams and Reaches Customers

What is Geo-Fencing and Geo-Tracking and How Can It Help My Business?

If you are not a technology nerd, you may be intimidated by terms like Geo-Fencing and Geo-Tracking and, above all, you might think that these things could never apply to you or your business. BUT, you would be wrong! Geo Fencing and Geo Tracking can be used by many types of business from small business contractors, electricians, construction businesses and technician services to taxi drivers, trucking companies and more.

###

Let’s keep this simple with a definition of these terms. I think that may make it easier for you to understand how these technologies can help your business.

First, let’s talk about GeoFencing. Geo-fencing uses the global positioning system or GPS or radio frequency identification (RFID) to define geographical boundaries. It can trigger an action when a mobile device or RFID tag enters or exits a virtual boundary set up around a geographical location, aka a ‘geofence’. Think of geofencing as a virtual geographical boundary.

Geo-Tracking is used to track mobile devices within a geographical area. Geotracking is used to track the current, physical location of a device/person and uses GPS data from a smartphones or other GPS enabled device.

These technologies can be used to track a fleet of trucks and drivers, or even to capture and track a shopper as they make their way through a store and push discounts, specials and rewards to their smart phone to promote the products in a particular part of the store or attract shoppers to the store when they are in a nearby location.
