Case Study: Integrated Online Volusion eCommerce Site for US Clothing and Footware Co.

A U.S. casual clothing and footwear superstore engaged Elegant MicroWeb to help them design their website using the Volusion eCommerce framework. The client wished to provide its customers with an intuitive, secured, hassle-free online shopping experience in which to browse and shop for apparel, clothing accessories, swimwear and footwear.

The challenge was to effectively address all integration, development and customization requirements within the Volusion framework and provide a third party tax calculation tool and all required integration. This was, perhaps, the first project of its kind world-wide that would incorporate all these unique, detailed requirements into one Volusion eCommerce solution. The Elegant MicroWeb team developed product related APIs to import products for add/update/delete functionality, and to export orders. The team also designed a complex XML integration of the Volusion framework for product management, product categories and product options, and product fulfillment, as well as integrating Pro-Mail and Carhartt and a third-party tax calculation tool to compute taxes based on state, category and products.

Another classic example of passion turned to profession… Shopify was actually Snowdevil which was an online store for snowboarding equipment found by three friends; Tobias/Daniel/Scott in 2004 at Canada.

The inadequate features provided by then existing e-commerce products in market forced Tobias to build his own solution for Snowdevil. He used the open source web application framework of Ruby on Rails to build the online store for Snowdevil venture after just two months of development. This platform was launched as Shopify in 2006.

A software product and services company in the U.S. engaged Elegant MicroWeb to re-engineer an enterprise software application with desktop-based client to upgrade its software product to a cutting-edge architecture for a seamless user experience. Elegant MicroWeb employed agile project management methodology and reporting systems to ensure effective communication between the client in the U.S. and the offshore Elegant MicroWeb team in India.

The client’s Java-based desktop architecture was used by a large number of users in aerospace, defense and other verticals, so it was crucial to ensure a smooth migration and re-engineering effort, and to provide continuous availability and adequate user training. Elegant MicroWeb designed a three tier application architecture for presentation, middle and persistence tiers with interoperability of the persistence tier to accommodate the relational database on Oracle platform. A UK-based well known logistics fulfillment and redemption business asked Elegant MicroWeb to assist in the development of a high-performance platform for off-the-shelf services to accommodate merchants and create a personalized fulfillment and redemption portal. Elegant MicroWeb created an easy-to-use interface so that merchants could easily and quickly create personalized stores, enable integration of order APIs, payment gateways, ecommerce sites, and provided alert, notification and reporting capabilities for finance, stock, redemption, shipment tracking and more.

The Elegant MicroWeb team designed architecture and developed a logistics fulfillment portal. Elegant MicroWeb helped a UK-based consulting and software company reengineer tools to serve a well-renowned clientele including the Scottish Parliament, Welsh Assembly, Harvard University Law School Global eParliament Project, the UK Department of Trade and Industry and more than forty other local authorities.
