Another classic example of passion turned to profession… Shopify was actually Snowdevil which was an online store for snowboarding equipment found by three friends; Tobias/Daniel/Scott in 2004 at Canada.
The inadequate features provided by then existing e-commerce products in market forced Tobias to build his own solution for Snowdevil. He used the open source web application framework of Ruby on Rails to build the online store for Snowdevil venture after just two months of development. This platform was launched as Shopify in 2006.

Written in PHP, it houses the MYSQL/MariaDB relational database management system & partial Zend Framework (an Open source, object oriented web application framework in PHP5). Magento uses conventions of OOP/Object Oriented Programming & a well-known Model-View Controller architecture. Additionally it uses Entity-Attribute-Value model in order to store data.
Open Source… PHP… CMS Framework… & it’s Drupal!! Did I hear USP with a question mark? Well, it has a highly sophisticated API for the developers yet fundamental website installation and administrative chores of framework do not require any programming skills.

Depending on whom you ask, some would not touch WordPress even if it’s the only option left.
Care to guess why?
Well, WordPress is a framework based on PHP, back then it was just a blog, it was a desired CMS, later it became a CMS and PHP has over two dozen frameworks today.
Imagine watching a baseball game, with the players all well kempt and suddenly you notice among them a little kid who is just too small, out of the ordinary, has a running nose and then you notice that crowd is actually cheering for that small guy, whilst the rest of big guys on the field, in spite their cool looks reserved attitude are begrudgingly acknowledging the little kids as he runs along towards them, stands in their league….That little kid could be what Umbraco is among the big names like WordPress, Joomla and Drupal.
Well, going back to the scenario involving the little kid….
May be, perhaps not an accurate comparison… okay by now, it should be about Joomla.
